School Sports

Due to school budget cuts, our school is suffering with offering students with a variety of sports. Over the past decade, according to campus staff, the costs to afford and help maintain sports such as our formal football & water polo departments have been cut from our school. It is seriously sad to see this happen because overall as an effect, its impacting our school spirit as students are not really engaging in our school's athletic program. When compared to other schools, students tend to carry more pride and are more engaged with their school due to the highly participation from athletic department, however, the only thing that CSUN has to offer in terms of creating a more student-college engaging involvement is within the variety of organizations amongst the greek community.

Parking Availability

As a transfer student from South Los Angeles, I never realized how difficult it is for students who commute to CSUN to find a parking space off/on campus. On the fall of 2011 being the first semester as a transfer student I decided to avoid buying the very expensive parking permit and chose to instead park on the streets. However, I found myself running late to class due to the big campus which took time first to find a parking space and then time to arrive to my class which also took about 10 mins. So a week into school I decided to go and buy the $180 parking permit for the semester, WRONG IDEA!!! Just like on the streets, I spend time looking for availability parking spaces from the three major parking lots which by the way are always full. So in other words, it was pointless to buy a permit when I had to continue searching for parking spaces that are NEVER available unless you get there about 45 mins before your class starts. This is ridiculous.

Sociology Department Admission

I did not encounter any major difficulties transferring to CSUN. With the guidance from my community college counselor and with (Assist.org) I was to plan myself with the requirements that I needed to fulfill prior to transferring. Although I know some departments such as the Business department might be more challenging to get accepted to, overall its really not difficult to get into CSUN. If you have a 3.0 GPA (grade point average of 4.0) or higher, you have a very good chance that your application process will be granted. Unlike the UC and private college systems, Cal States system do not require any essays for admissions. All you need is a good grade point average.
