CMU at Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh is a great city, and is definitely a college city. There's plenty of shops and places for college students to go to, and there's plenty of activities going on on campus all the time. Pittsburgh is the 3rd safest city for its size, but student's can't walk completely blinded wherever they go: use common sense. The students at CMU are very bright, and we don't fulfill the stereotype of a "nerd" school that most people give us. We have smart kids here, but everyone is sociable, and generally very nice.

Campus @ CMU
The campus is great. it's well kept, and there are plenty of resources offered. I haven't had any problems with anything provided to me, whether it be studios or classrooms, etc. The only annoying thing that goes on are faulty printers... The workout rooms are all great, and campus activities are constant and there's always something to do.

People @ CMU
Everyone here is highly diverse, and very accepting. It's not uncommon to hear multiple people speaking a different language on your way to class. It's actually a minority to only be able to speak one language. Sexual orientation and political beliefs are shared and are also diverse, yet accepted.

Life @ CMU
The dorms are pretty nice. CMU offers a lot for their students, including multiple gyms, printers all around campus, building accessibility, etc. The school costs a lot, but you get what you pay for. The only thing I've seen wrong with the school is the price. Everything is offered to you: multiple opportunities for internships, jobs, clubs, etc. The housing process is simple. CMU's whole system of operation is simple for what I can remember. Definitely live off campus after freshman year, because it is so much cheaper.

Students @ CMU
We're a school of nerds, but we don't all look like it. Everyone at this school, for the most part, is extremely intelligent. It's not like a normal university: sadly, stereotypically, not everyone is necessarily model-pretty. Besides looks, everyone here is generally very nice. Every time I've lost something, someone has picked it up and returned it to lost and found, or will go as far as finding your email and letting you know that they found something you lost. There have only been minor thefts, but that's been from leaving items out in the open in public areas, which is pretty much a stupid thing to do. General summary: nice, smart, people.

Drugs & Alcohol....
Almost all of my friends smoke pot. CMU is known as a nerd school, but almost everyone I know smokes weed, and almost everyone I know drinks. They're not very open about it, the drugs are kept secretive. So don't be surprised when you find out someone smokes, it's most likely that almost everyone does, they're just not outwardly open about it. Almost everyone drinks, but we're also not a huge party school. Parties can be disappointing. That's what U-Pit is for. CMU follows an Amnesty policy, so they're forgiving which is great. Peer pressure isn't apparent, you either want to or you dont.

Computers @ CMU
The wireless is great, very fast, and easily accessible. CMU is always updating technology, and there is no doubt about that-- one of CMU's largest majors is Computer Science, and there's nothing that technology can't do here. Only complaint are the printers around campus. They are almost never reliable. A personal printer would be the way to go if you have one, if it is an option.

CMU Nightlife
CMU has a stereotype of being an extremely nerdy school with people who don't enjoy to have fun. It's actually the exact opposite. There is always something going on or some party to go to every weekend night (They are just quieter than U Pitt down in Oakland). Usually you can either go to a frat party or go to a friend's house and drink there. My friends and I usually just chill with friends at their apartments and houses because we have no chance of getting busted at a loud party. Although, larger parties on campus go dry pretty fast.

Bus System
The buses at CMU are free with your ID card. The buses are great, except for the fact that they can be unreliable on showing up on time. I've gotten stranded at night because a bus never came: it's important to know when they stop running on certain days. They could be way more convenient, but it's nice to have them at all, especially since they're free, but they could be a lot better.

Safety
Hardly any crime happens actually on campus. Every now and then you'll hear about a car that was broken into in a garage for a lap top, but that's only happened twice this year, and can be easily prevented. Most of the crime is off campus and into Oakland and parts of Shadyside. CMU's campus is very safe.

Food
A lot of people complain about dining on campus. We have so many options to choose from since we don't have one centralized cafeteria. There are plenty of healthy and many unhealthy options on campus. Only complaint would be that all of the good placed to eat are closed on the weekends. The best places have to be The Exchange and La Prima.

Parking
I don't have a car, but my friends say that parking is very expensive. Parking is also limited. It's not really worth having a car, because it's cost isn't worth the convenience unless you're willing to pay. Buses are free with our ID cards.

Dreary
So Pittsburgh is infamously cloudy and dreary. But before October and after March, the sun tends to come out more. Classes are pretty much guaranteed to never get canceled. You get used to the snow, but once the weather starts warming up, everyone spends all day outside.
