Computers at Furman University

Decent Access to Comps Wireless-Not So Good

Computers are generally available, prime time is early night. There are a lot of computers in the library, and some scattered about so there are a lot of options for public computers and printers. Personal printers are convenient but definitely not necessary. The network speed and reliability is lacking. Dorms here generally aren't wireless so that is somewhat of a burden, most everywhere else on campus wireless is available, sometimes tempermental.

Diversity at Furman University

C

Diversity? Kinda, Sort of

This school is definitely highly populated with white kids. There are kids of other races as well, many of them on athletic teams. There is a range of economic backgrounds, although you couldn't tell by looking at everyone, all seem to put off the vibe they are moderately wealthy, money is not often talked about except by the people who flaunt it. Religion is popular but not necessary, it depends who one chooses to hang out with there are those who are not religious at all but it makes no difference. As for political views, Republicans run rampant, although the token Democrats exist.

Parking at Furman University

C-

Beware, Campus Police!

Cars are definitely very useful to have, nothing worthwhile is in walking distance of campus. Permits cost $100 for the year, although will likely be 200 if you take into consideration the parking tickets. Fu-Po is on a power-trip. This is a college campus, kids don't have a lot of spare money lying around yet they give out tickets like chocolate in a candy store. Parking spaces are available but if your not supposed to park there, beware! Due to some overassigning lots some are more crowded than others. Parking is cut throat.

Academics at Furman University

A

Its Pretty Tough, So That Means Academic Rating Is High...

Some professors are better than others. Classes are extremely subjective, but if you're not the genius of the class, you may not do so hot. Signing up for classes is not easy, the workload is far more than moderate, and class selection is limited. Special study is pretty good, and the school is flexible with working with other programs to get people where they want to go. Study abroad is popular.

Local Atmosphere at Furman University

B

Fun but Not Overwhelming

There are not very many attractions near school. Downtown is the place to hang out and eat. There are street festivals often, so Main Street is closed a lot, making getting around a pain. It's safe and patrolled by police on weekends and sometimes weekdays. There is shopping, but it's not all that close. The mall is about 20 minutes away. The locals are extremely friendly, and they love Furman students. There are discounts at some places, and at bars they insist on conversation.

Campus Dining at Furman University

C

Ick

On-campus dining is not good. Everyting in the dining hall is extremely fattening. There are so many calories and everything is fried. It's the same salad, pizza, and pasta options every day, in addition to cereal. Hot meals are generally not appealing or healthy. The best they have is dessert. The pala-den is okay but gets old. It's your typical semi-fast food place but on campus.

Nightlife at Furman University

B+

Ehh, Alright If Your 21

Fraternities throw decent parties, as long as they are downtown. The police show up to the houses so they are no fun, scary for underage students. The school offers shuttle service if called. The bars downtown are really all that is fun, however they do require ID so not much fun for underaged students. Since Greenville cracked down on underage drinking, even in houses the party scene has collapsed a little. The sports houses are a good place to go for a safe fun time.
