To Be an English Major
In terms of academics, Whitman College is a haven for English Majors. The professors are great, the resources are plentiful, and our library is AMAZING. However, the reason I give being an English major a less than perfect score is in the way we are treated by other students. Science majors tend to brush us off, and others disregard the work we do in favor of their own. This may be true of any major, but it seems particularly pointed towards the English major at Whitman College.

Leaving the Whitman Bubble
Many students at Whitman College will tell you, we don't often leave campus. It is often called the Whitman bubble, a self contained atmosphere that tends to trap students in their free time. However, we do go off campus sometimes, and downtown is a ten minute walk away. There are many options, but they are all quite expensive. This is probably a result of Walla Walla being a wine town, catering to college students and those on winery tours of Eastern Washington.

Alcohol and Greek Life
I am a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, one of the sororities at our school. Though we are most definitely not a typical sorority, many do partake of alcohol. I have also witnessed some marijuana use, but outside of these two relatively tame drugs, there are not any other drug uses at Whitman College. However, the drinking that does go on is quite visible, and it is the norm to drink every night of the weekend. Residence halls even allow alcohol, as long as it is kept in the room. I would say that Whitman College is very lax on this policy, but probably because they know most of their students are too smart to do any of it.
