So what are the pros of GWU? Is there a community feel? How would you try and convince someone to go here?

Depends on what campus you're on. Strong sense of community.

What are/were you on? What's it like?

Very little community feel in Foggy Bottom. Mount Vernon may be better.

If I apply to NU, can I apply to a college yet still be undeclared? Basically like pick the college i think i would want to be in but not a major yet, or should i just apply undeclared?

Yes, you can apply as undecided and then chose the major later on once you decide what subject you like.

But can I apply to one of the schools to have a better chance of getting in b/c being undeclared is harder to get in?

I'm a junior. Do you think, for all of you current or alumni NU students, that not having great test scores will really hurt getting accepted? I haven't tested yet, and have a 4.0 gpa, taking rigorous classes.

You're going to here this line a lot, but it's important to bear in mind that your admission isn't based on any one facet of your application. Great grades will help you, of course, as will good test scores, but your essay also needs to show a level if engagement and genuine interest in the university. Beyond that extracurriculars are a good way to show responsibility and maturity.

If you're pulling a 4.0, I wonder if you have any reason to worry that you won't test well? Just go for it, you might surprise yourself.

For clarity's sake, I'm a 3rd year at neu.

What are you studying? Also, if you don't mind, what did you get on your ACTs and/or SATs? Do you know what most of your friends scored? Thank you so much!

I'm a dual major in Political Science & International Affairs. It's been a few years since I thought about ACTs or SATs, but I believe my ACT was a 30 or 31. I can't remember what my SAT was (sorry, like I said it's been a while). I was accepted to the university Honor's Program.

Also I had something like a 3.4/3.5 out of high school. Never really asked my friends at NEU what they scored on tests, so I can't help you there.

I would say, though, that NEU has come a long way in terms of it's selectivity since I applied for Fall 2010. That said, don't overstress tests.. Do your best and apply - not much more you can do.

Final bit, for full disclosure: I grew up outside of the US and have a "diverse" background. No doubt that helped somewhat with my application.

I see! Your great scores must have helped too!

I just got accepted with a sat score of 1730 . Its not all about test scores!!!!!

congrats!!! that's awesome :) what was your gpa and classes and essay like?

My gpa is a 3.86 un weighted and the only APs i take are AP english and AP pre-cal. I suppose my essay was good , and i have a lot of community service and ECs, I interned for the summers in costa rica. I really didnt think id get in , I even got rejected at BU which is supposed to be easier to get in to. I wasnt able to visit NEU because I live too far away but, I fell in love with the school :)

So I went on a great tour around Northeastern today..what do all of you attending there think are the top priorities to get into NU?

Definitely take as many AP classes as you can and do a lot of extra-curriculars. This is pretty standard for most schools. They want to see that you do something unique.

What APs did you take? What do you think let you stand out to get accepted to NU?
