What is the Japanese language program like? And since I'm a Canadian citizen (I live in Oregon.. so dual citizen) how long would I have to stay in Canada until I can attend, if I get accepted?

I'm a violinist that's been playing since 5th grade and I've had private lessons on and off since freshman year, and I'm a junior in high school. Do they take into account how long you have taken private lessons? I am concertmaster in my orchestra and I love being a leader, but I'm not sure if they would be satisfied with my playing. I have great pitch and rhythm as well as a strong desire to improve and explore what I can do with my instrument.

It is a WONDERFUL school and you will become an amazing instrumentalist if you were to attend Juilliard, however, getting in is extremely difficult. Thousands apply and they only take maybe 10 of an instrument (I am a vocalist and they took only 1 of my voice type last year - 10 for all voice types - both boys and girls - someone said to me over 2,000 applied for voice alone). They do not take into account how long you have had private lessons because everyone who applies has been studying for years and taken private lessons and most have taken pre-college programs to get the leave needed to even get an audition. That being said it is always worth sending in a pre-screening application because you never know. Just don't be disappointed if you don't get in because it is such a long shot it does not mean that you are not wonderful. They accept only about 200-250 students over ALL the schools (dance, drama, music) each year, and last year we had students from 39 countries accepted which means you are competing against people from all over the world. Also know that once you get in the demands of the school are more than you can imagine - getting in is easy - staying in is hard!! (Stress and pressure being some of the main factors of staying.) Good luck where ever you go!
