A Small College in Winter Park
Like a lot of liberal arts colleges in the northeast, Rollins has the appeal of offering a beautiful campus in a small city. Its main entrance spills into the heart of Winter Park--Park Avenue. there are many restaurants and stores around campus, and the environment seems both friendly and safe. I chose Rollins because I wanted the northeastern liberal arts atmosphere in a warm climate. In this respect, Rollins delivers. There's a lot to do in town, and Orlando is only a five minute drive away.

Computer Access Exists
While som students who come to Rollins on scholarship will receive laptops, not all students are guaranteed this option. For those who don't have access to a computer, there are a few computer labs scattered about campus. I always use them for my printing needs since Rollins gives students 1,000 free pages of print outs included in their tuition. The only issue is that printers get jammed or stop working near finals, and there doesn't seem to be anyone taking care of them. I have had a few times when I had to ask a professor print out a paper or assignment on their department printers because no student printers were working on campus. I also had an issue with my scholarship laptop. I received a refurbished/used computer that never worked right. Although I was given a replacement, that one didn't work after a few months either--and was also refurbished. IT wouldn't fix the computer so I had to shell out $1,000 for a computer of my own.

Average Housing at Premium Prices
Although I currently live off campus, I have seen the residence halls when visiting friends on campus. While Rollins has refurbished some of the dorms, and the common areas are redone to be very state-of-the-art and comfortable, the dorm rooms aren't anything exceptional. Not only are rooms small, but in recent years, the College started putting more students in dorm rooms (a single being occupied by two students, etc.) Even so, the cost of living on campus is exceptionally high. Students scrunched into a single ill find they pay for a "standard double," and those fortunate to get a single - as a single- will pay a hefty bill for rooms that look like prison cells. This is probably why the majority of students move off campus as soon as they can.
