Health & Safety at University of Oklahoma

A

Police Activity

There is always campus PD patrolling around the school and Norman PD right off of the school. They have a program called SafeWalk that you can use to have people escort you back to your residence at night if you're scared or nervous. Not too many creepy elder people walking around campus at any given time.

Computers at University of Oklahoma

A

Brand New

There are computers in just about every building to use. The residence halls have their computer labs, the colleges have their own computer labs, and the library has a couple different ones. They are all relatively new and have a mixture of MAC's and PC's. Only problem is the long loading time for your account when you log on.

Campus Dining at University of Oklahoma

A-

Buffet Style

So many options. The main food area is a circular building where it's pay to get in, then all you can eat buffet. Things from Greek to Italian, to Chick-Fil-A, to Chinese, to a vegatarian station, to American, build your own Mexican plate, sweet shop, etc. All in one place. 18 total inside this building. Other places are pretty generic. You have Burger King close by, a convenience store in the dorms, a 24 hour restaurant, Starbucks and a few others. Food does get a bit tiring after a while but there's usually plenty of variety.

Academics at University of Oklahoma

B+

It Depends

The professors you get your first 2 years won't be that great. Many are graduate teaching assistants working on their PhD's. That mean you will have a lot of foreign professors and they won't be that involved. You'll go to class, take notes, study, take a test, repeat. That's about it until you get to your major's courses. Workload is pretty good. Just lots of studying for some hard classes (Math, Econ, Zoology). Registration is super simple online and you can almost always get your preferred schedule if you do it when your adviser tells you to. Seeing an adviser is simple and there aren't too long of waits. Special study spots would be Wagner Hall, the Great Reading Room in the library, and Price College of Business. All of these places have nice leather chairs and couches or table if you prefer that.

Parking at University of Oklahoma

C-

Good Luck

Parking here sucks. Lots of restrictions on spots (spots only for upperclassmen), not enough spots, and the distance between lots and classes. Lots of students come from Texas and Oklahoma, so there is an overflow of cars in contrast to spots. The only good thing is there's usually enough space to park somewhat close to the dorms. Other than that, no. Use your car only for off-campus stuff, it's useless driving to class. Need for a car isn't great but you may consider it if you're a social hound and need to go places constantly.
