Health & Safety at New College of Florida

A-

Safety

I feel very safe on campus. We have a lot of the blue emergency phones and police patrolling often. They are not there to bust the students so much as to keep them safe. The police are friendly and helpful. Campus crime is low, things are stolen, but mostly by townies and if you take the right precautions this is unlikely. Essentially, lock your bikes. That helps a lot.

Off-Campus Dining at New College of Florida

It Is Bleak.

I am from a big city with a lot of variety in the culture, cost and quality of food. This does not exist in Sarasota. Food is mostly bland southern cooking marketed towards old people. Tropical Thai is a good "exotic" place to eat. If you go down town you will end up spending a lot. In the area around school, food is cheap, but also pretty bad. I recommend learning to cook.

Anthropology Is Amazing

The professors are incredible, some of the most fascinating people you will ever meet. It is a lot of reading and essay writing but it does not feel like a hassle. I plan to become an immigration attorney and I am not concerned about finding a job in this field.

Campus Dining at New College of Florida

Horrible.

The dining hall, Hamilton Center, is the worst. It is awful. I once got tofu that was hard. It is bad. I stick almost exclusively to the salad bar and the Boar's head or Four Winds cafe. Four winds is very slow though.

Parking at New College of Florida

A

Parking Is Fine, I Guess?

I forget what I payed for my parking permit, but I remember it seemed average. There is a lot of parking on campus, and I think that a car is completely unnecessary unless you plan on driving out of town or something. Pretty much everything in town is within biking distance and I much prefer to bike around than drive.
