Campus Housing at Pitzer College

B+

You Only Have to Worry About Sophomore Year

All of the freshman live in the brand new dorms, so no one can complain. Juniors and seniors live in suite style living, but sophomores live in double rooms in Holden Hall. Fortunately, Holden Hall is being rebuilt and will turn into the new upperclassmen hall starting fall of 2012. In just a short time, all the dorms on campus will be brand new, so you really shouldn't be concerned. The best part is there are NO communal bathrooms; not having to walk down the hall in your towel is priceless!

Weather at Pitzer College

A+

Be Prepared for a Whole Lot of Sun, and Little to No Rain

It truly is sunny here 90% of the days school is in session. It usually rains anywhere from 5-15 days in the school year; you actually begin to miss bad whether sometimes. We don't really have seasons, but the fact that we have 85 degree whether at the end of November is pretty fantastic. It really makes it an active campus; people are always outside studying on the mounds.

Health & Safety at Pitzer College

A

It's Rare to Feel Unsafe

I've always felt safe walking around campus. We have a system set up so that at anytime you should be able to spot a blue light that has a phone or button attached that contacts campus safety. If you do feel unsafe, campus safety will gladly get you and escort you back to your room. We also have a system setup where every student will get an e-mail, phone call, and text message if anything suspicious is happening on campus.

Academics at Pitzer College

A-

Academics Continue to Improve

The professors I've taken have truly been both extremely knowledgeable and personable. During my first semester of freshman year I was invited to two of my professor's houses for dinner just to discuss what I was interested in doing after college. There are always going to be those professors that are really tough, or don't stay on topic, but in general the college has done a great job of replacing those professors and listening to student feedback.

Local Atmosphere at Pitzer College

A

Claremont Is Definitely a Stereotypical College Town

I personally love Claremont. There isn't a huge nightlife, but there are many restaurants, cute little shops, and lots of good frozen yogurt places. I highly recommend 21 Choices, our local frozen yogurt shop. Some of the eateries in town take Claremont Cash, so all you have to do is swipe your college id and not even worry about carrying cash. All the residents treat the college students with the utmost respect; one of the shop owners even gave me her phone number to call if I ever was in need of a good home-cooked meal. If you do get tired of the small college town, it's super easy to jump on the Metrolink to L.A. where anything and everything you might need or want is at your finger tips.

Facilities at Pitzer College

B+

Some of the Buildings Need Improvement, but the New Ones Are Really Nice

None of the facilities at Pitzer are bad, but some of the halls need updating. Two of the new halls, Broad Hall and Broad Center, all have smart classrooms, which means they all have televisions, projectors, and computers accessible at any time. The renovated Benson auditorium is almost finished, which will be another major improvement on campus.

Campus Dining at Pitzer College

A+

You're Crazy If You Think the Food Is Bad!

Due to the fact that Pitzer is apart of the Claremont Consortium, we not only have access to one amazing dining hall, but 7 of them! All of the Claremont College's dining halls are top notch, but in particular Pitzer specializes in locally grown and organic and vegan food options. Most days I think the meals I eat on campus are better than the meals I have at home.

Off-Campus Dining at Pitzer College

A

Plenty of Options Both Cheap and Expensive

If you're looking for something cheap, the Claremont Village has the Pita Pit, Yogurtland, Quiznos, and others. At the same time you can easily spend over $100 on a dinner for two. There are tons of options to choose from. We have a great Thai restaurant, as well as Greek, Spanish, Japanese, Italian, and French. If you're a need of good dessert or pastry, Some Crust Bakery is the place to go.

Guys & Girls at Pitzer College

B

There Are Definitely Attractive Guys and Girls, and Also Some No So Attractive Ones

It's usually easy to find attractive people on campus. Overall the girls are probably a little better looking than the guys, but at the same time the guys who attend Pitzer are very intelligent and dedicated students which is attractive in itself. Claremont McKenna is known for having the "hot" guys, but Pitzer and Scripps are definitely known for having the best looking girls in the Claremont Consortium.

Campus Strictness at Pitzer College

A-

You See Them Around, but They Aren't There to Take Away the Fun

Campus Safety is popping up more and more at the parties, but I haven't heard of any of them being shutdown. In general Pitzer is pretty relaxed about drinking and smoking, as long as you aren't stupid and break a rule right in front of an R.A.'s face. If you are caught drinking underage, Pitzer doesn't believe in punishment. Their goal is to help fix the drinking problem, so they require you have some counseling and take part in community service.

Parking at Pitzer College

A

Never a Problem

The recent construction has changed the parking policies on campus so that only juniors and seniors can have a car on campus. The administration will allow freshman and sophomores to have a car if they have a letter from a doctor, teacher, etc. providing a good reason for allowing that student to have a car. I have a car on campus, and have never had an issue finding a spot in the parking lot by my dorm room.

Overall Experience at Pitzer College

A

I Don't Think I Could Be Any More Happy Than I Am Here at Pitzer!

Every college is going to have something you don't like about it, but Pitzer truly is an amazing place to live, learn, and grow. You really feel at home, and I always feel like I have both my friends' and professors' support when I need it. The campus is very diverse, and everyday I learn something new both in and out of the classroom. I actually miss Pitzer every time I go home on breaks. The friendly atmosphere on Pitzer's campus can't be beat, and that is one of the qualities that I think makes Pitzer such a welcoming environment.

Inside Scoop at Pitzer College

A

The Student Body Has a Lot of Say in Every School Decision Made

Being part of the Claremont College Consortium is priceless. The resources are practically unlimited. Pitzer believes that the students should be fully involved in all changes that happen on campus, and this really bring administration, faculty, and students together.
