Health & Safety at Virginia Tech

A

Blacksburg = Safety

Even after the two, separated and unrelated events where gunmen have killed others and themselves within the last decade, I would still say that Virginia Tech is a very safe school. All over campus, you can find the Emergency Call Booths, and (although some may find this annoying) there always seems to be a Cop just around the corner. I often see sobriety check points on the weekends and I have never heard of someone dying from a drunk driving incident on or anywhere near our campus. You see someone in uniform almost every day and reflecting on all of these safety/security measures makes me feel like the school really cares about protecting its students.

Diversity at Virginia Tech

C

Not Being White

Virginia Tech is mostly a White campus. Although there are many different kinds of people within the campus, you don't see them too often and being someone who is a minority, this can sometimes be intimidating. More so if you come from an area where white people make up not even half of the percentage of the population.

Parking at Virginia Tech

Parking SUCKS

PARKING SUCKS! You can't park ANYWHERE on campus and the closest place you can park consistently without getting a ticket is either "the Cage" or in a parking garage down town, both of which you must pay a couple hundred dollars to gain access for the semester/year. The people who give out tickets are ALWAYS on the hunt. You can't leave your car ANYWHERE on campus for almost ANY amount of time without expecting to get a ticket from one of those guys.
