Diversity at University of Michigan - Ann Arbor

A+

Extremely Accepting

Almost every race, religion, and type of person can be found at the University of Michigan. Walking through any given building or across campus, one can see a large representation of the diversity in the world. I have not seen one episode of intolerance since I moved to Ann Arbor. As a gay student, acceptance is a major issue in where I choose to live, and I have only been met with support and encouragement for who I am at school. The same goes for other religions and races. Of course, at such a large school we do have some people that are ignorant to anything different than themselves, but the percentage of those people is very small and support from strangers is not an uncommon occurrence.

Nightlife at University of Michigan - Ann Arbor

B+

Head to Central Campus

Buses from North Campus run until 3 am on weekends and almost as late on weekdays, so transportation is not an issue for those on North Campus. There are plenty of places to hang out on central campus, and walking there is not a problem as the farthest point is usually only a few blocks away. The main club on campus is 18+, and they have Gay Pride nights on Fridays for the LGBTQ community (they have the best music on Pride nights too!). House parties are very common, but getting in is hard for most people unless they know someone to get them into the party. The house parties have the potential get rowdy sometimes also, so I would recommend avoiding them unless that is what you are looking for.

Greek Life at University of Michigan - Ann Arbor

B-

Only If You're Dedicated

Greek life tends to be a very serious commitment for most of the pledges. Many of the pledges have difficulty balancing their pledge week commitments with their schoolwork. The parties are fairly common, but unless you have a friend to get you in they are usually harder to get into than most would like. Bouncers can even be found at some of the parties, so entry without an invitation is not an easy feat.
