Hawaii Pacific University Majors had a new discussion posted by Poiuy3

Are their Spanish or Latin American Studies?

Is their a major or even a minor in either of these, or something in relation to?

I believe there is, Chicano studies maybe...research on that more might help.

I think there are classes for Spanish, but I'm not sure if there is a major or minor for these.

While there is not an option to major in either of these, there is an option to minor in Spanish. HPU even offers exchange programs to study in Peru or Spain!

No

Yes there are spanish and Latin American Studies at HPU.

What are the dorm/building conditions?

Are the dorms and other buildings in good shape. Also is their any construction or newer buildings on campus?

The dorm conditions are very good.

Freshman dorms are clean and well kept. Freer for upperclassmen is fine, so is Johnson. Hale Noelani apparently is crawling over with cockroaches.

Yes, the dorms are in standard, livable conditions. There is nonstop fast renovations/construction constantly happening.

The dorms are descent. They don't clean the bathrooms on weekends.

Other than the dorm that was built a few years ago, all of the dorms are horrible

There are a number of old buildings but there is also a ton of construction going on. The student athletic center is getting a huge upgrade.

There are a few options for dorming. The on-campus apartments are in good shape. Frear Hall is the newest and nicest of the dorms. Gateway Hall is being renovated and should be done for the Fall 2012 semester.

Never been to UH Manoa, but heard you should wear slippers in the shower. Never been to HPU. It's not the Hilton, but you can live comfortably in the dorms at UH Hilo.

There is perennial construction

Old dorms have been getting reconstructed and in all; fairly good shape

The dorm and building conditions are great! They are currently renovating the Gateway dorm and building another gym/food/educational center for students.

They aren't in the best of shape. Many of them are old and run down. There are new buildings being built but they are mostly new athletic based buildings. One of the dorms is being rebuilt though.

I lived in Frear Hall last year and it was absolutely a luxury! We were the only building that had air conditioning. Our building is also the newest and therefore the best in shape. The rest of the dorms are not bad, just different in comparison.

I have only lived in the freshman dorms, but it was actually a very good experience. Compared to other dorms, these are pretty nice. I've heard some horror stories about bad dorms, but my experience here definitely was a good one.

The Dorms could really get a makeover. Students need more space, and their own privacy. The buildings should also be repaired. Other buildings are in good shape. The theatre could use a new paint job. The new construction site is for the new book store.

The dorms are in pretty good shape. There is one new building that has just opened up for students this past year (2011-2012). And there are two other building projects that are being worked on.

Most of the uh hilo dorms are getting remodled or reparied this summer so they should be better then ever

There is a lot of construction. I've never been in the dorms.

Very good and well up kept.

The dorms are moderately clean. There is currently a dormitory renovation underway this school year 2012-13. In addition, a new and bigger building for student services is already under construction since last year and should be completed this year.

I live off campus, so I cannot really say how the dorm building conditions are currently.

There is alot of new construction going on and they are currently building new dorms, but some of the buildings are really old. But they are trying to improve them every year.

The dorms and buildings are in good shape, it's livable. There's construction going on the campus, and a few new buildings. The dorm rooms are small.

I just answered this question two survey questions ago...

It's an old campus and it really shows. Dorms are run down and classrooms are small. There's one newer building of classrooms and one brand new. Their building projects take forever to be completed.

The dorms are a decent quality, they aren't anything special unless you take the time to decorate them nicely. Currently the campus is renovating and building new buildings which includes a new updated bookstore.

The dorms are very nice. I personally do not live at the dorms, but have been in them. they are spacious and comfortable.

There are a number of good dorms and bad dorms. It's a toss up, but the food is great. There is currently a ton of construction on campus. Across the street from the Main Gate, they are building a new housing complex that will have 300 beds!

Dorms are in good shape and the only plus to on-campus housing is you roll out of bed and into class. Off campus housing is cheaper but you have the problem of not-so-good public transportation that makes a car a very attracting accessory.

Aside from the brand new building, there is only one other dormitory with air conditioning. And on top of that, most of the dorms are very old and not in that good of shape.

hpu has 3 different campuses but the only dorms are located in the windward campus. i didnt live in the dorms but i heard from friends that they are in good conditions. most of the buildings on campus are new and in good condition

Not yet they are working on remodeling the Loa campus with in the next 5 years or so with new dorms and a new soccer field. The current dorms had new furniture installed last year.

Terrible. The HLC dorms were probably built in the 50's. They are building new dorms on the downtown campus on the water, BUT they are in a dangerous area. They should be nice though. The building on the HLC is nice and the trailer is well a trailer. The downtown buildings are all over the scale, but mostly nice. HLC dorms though are not nice. DO NOT TRUST PICTURES. Neither is the off campus Ohia.

I live off campus, so I cannot really say how the dorm building conditions are currently.

The brand new dorm that started construction May '12 should be fully operational near 2013-14. That is expected to be state of the art. The other dorms may be old but they are well maintained.

The buildings are in decent shape. They keep painting them to make them look better. But they aere building new dorms right now.

I have only visited a couple dorm rooms. They are very spartan yet still comfortable. They arnt in pristine shape but they are still livable. There are a couple new buildings being built at the moment, but they are not to be used as dorm rooms.

Dorms are run down and old. Showers and bathrooms are gross, filthy, and not taken care of. There are a few new nice buildings. More would be nice to accommodate the growing student population.

The dorms are old and not the cleanest. There is often problems with wifi connections and termites.

The dorms really could use a makeover. A lot of the older buildings should be torn out, especially the Music Department. That place is getting moldy and old.

Lots of construction going on the past few years. The noise and disruption isn't really an asset to an academic setting.

There is a crazy amount of construction happening on campur right now. The dorms are older buliding but they are building new ones...the ones we have now are not very nice honestly.
