Academics at College of the Holy Cross

A+

Incredibly Supportive Professors

I was more than satisfied with the Classics Department. 12 professors--a large number for a Classics department -- meant a wide variety of course choices every semester. The professors were both knowledgeable and passionate in the most inspiring way. And, perhaps most importantly, the professors care deeply about their students. They truly want you to enjoy their courses,to learn something, and overall to succeed. The academic work IS challenging, and the professors expect much from you, but if you work with them they will be behind you 100%.

Overall Experience at College of the Holy Cross

A

Wonderful Four Years

Holy Cross was, to me, one of the best places on earth. The campus is beautiful and manageable -- small, but not too small. Better be in shape, though, because there are a ton of stairs! Professors in all departments were both knowledgeable and helpful, and easily available for questions, help or discussion about classroom topics. Campus atmosphere is wonderful - HC students are, for the most part, very school spirited. One thing I would say is that, while you don't have to party at HC (in fact, the work is fairly challenging, so you can't really party 24/7), it is definitely present, so I wouldn't recommend the school for anyone who is very strongly opposed to drinking/parties. With that said, I went through four wonderful years without really partying at all; you get what you make of it.

Computers at College of the Holy Cross

A-

Updated Printing System

Holy Cross recently introduced a new printing system that really helps things run smoothly. It feeds all print requests from public computers in an area (i.e., a block of computers in the library) through a single computer setup. Students have to confirm their print job, and then the job is sent to the next available printer. This system saved a lot of paper and a lot of waiting in line! I also appreciated that printing, at least as of 2010, was completely free! One downside: at busy times of the semester (or week, i.e., Sundays) paper and ink in the main computer lab would sometimes run out and not be replaced for a day or two, even though IT staff was supposed to be monitoring. I learned to time large print jobs carefully.
