Online courses require a high level of self-determination and self-efficacy in order to keep up with the high volume of discussion posting, reading, and application workload assigned on a weekly bases and at an accelerated pace, than a traditional brick and mortar school. A major drawback of online courses is no face-to-face interaction and thus, relationships are much hard to develop and maintain. Establishing a student/mentor relationship is also absent from an online course environment, which makes acquiring recommendation letters virtually impossible.
