Academics at Auburn University

Some Gtas, Wide Range of Study Options

Professors: Most professors I've met understand the pressures on a college student and will work with you to overcome bad grades, etc., but you need to put in the effort. In the lower-level math classes there's a lot of GTAs (graduate teaching assistants) teaching, which I don't like.

Registration process: Auburn lets graduating seniors, honors kids, ROTC, and band sign up for classes first, then moves down the line by number of credit hours. This definitely puts some students at a disadvantage, but somehow, students almost always get all their required courses at class times that work for them. If worst comes to worst, your advisor can intervene to get your required courses.

Workload: There's a wide variety of teaching styles at Auburn-- some classes have three tests and that's it, while others have daily graded homework and bi-weekly quizzes. Be prepared for your workload to vary from semester to semester.

Special study options: Auburn is a great proponent of co-op programs. They make it extremely easy to transfer your scholarships, etc. to whichever semesters you'll actually be studying.

Auburn also provides Supplemental Instruction, in which a graduate, post-doc or upperclassman attends lecture with you and then holds a study/discussion session outside of class. These are often extremely useful, as a fellow student often has an idea of what difficulties the class is encountering.

Study areas: The RBD Library is always packed during midterm and final weeks, which might make it a little difficult to study there. Dorms have study rooms to make distraction-free studying a little more convenient.

Athletics at Auburn University

BCS Champs!

Auburn is football, football is Auburn. Gamedays are insane and even academic assignments are sometimes scheduled to allow for proper gameday festivities. I came to Auburn disliking football, but I've been completely converted. You might not like football now, but you've never experienced an SEC football game.

Inside Scoop at Auburn University

B

It's Great to Be an Auburn Tiger

Facilities: Brand-new Village housing community is NICE, but if you're not a high-level scholarship student, athlete or sorority member, you probably can't get in. Brand-new student center, excellent laboratories and science classrooms.

Things that set us apart: tradition. The Auburn Creed, insane footbal, Toomer's Corner, Toomer's Drugs, Samford Lawn, the AU Chapel.
