The City of Rochester and RIT
The area of Rochester in which RIT is located is pretty residential. Just of campus there are all kinds of stores and places to eat, so it isn't difficult to get anything around RIT or to find different places to eat, as there are a huge variety. Being from New Jersey, I was not very familiar with Rochester at all before I got here, but it is very accessible and easy to get around.
Other than going out and getting something to eat, going downtown, or maybe going to see an Amerks game, I haven't found all that much to do in Rochester itself, but that hasn't been too big a deal to me because I'm busy most of the time anyway.
The campus and area couldn't get any safer, and I have never even come close to feeling unsafe here.
It seems like RIT and the University of Rochester are "the schools" around here and I would consider Rochester a "college town" so things that happen on campus are usually known throughout the community surrounding the school.

Computers Are Second to None
The computers at this school are great and I have never encountered problems. I have a computer lab on the first floor of my residence hall that has both Mac and PC computers along with FREE printing. The entire campus is wireless and it seems that no matter where I go I always have a great connection. The internet is always fast and reliable, except during the Registration periods, but considering the amount of traffic on the servers during those times it is actually amazing how smoothly things go.
A personal printer is not needed at all, but to have a printer with a copier is very convenient as the only other place you can make copies that I know of is in the library and that costs money.

Not Enough Girls and Some Weird Guys
Probably the worst part about RIT is the fact that there are too many dudes. The hot girls here are hard to find and there are a lot of weird girls that either play video games all day or are just out there. There is a saying that every freshman will hear the first week he is here: "RIT girls are like parking spots, they are either taken, just pulled out off, or handicapped (NTID school for the deaf)
The only thing that keeps competition a little lower for the guys is the fact that there are a good amount of guys that sit in their rooms every Friday and Saturday night and play video games.
Advice to guys would be if you see a girl you like, talk to her because if you don't jump on it someone else will, and I can guarantee it.
