Atmosphere
The atmosphere of NIU is very nice. It is a typical college town full of multiple restaurants and stores. Sycamore road has all the stores a college student would need. However, there is not a mall.

Diversity
NIU has a wide range of ethnic backgrounds on campus. Many student organizations focus on common themes among students. Different sexual orientation and religious beliefs are common around campus, but do not cause much conflict. Everyone seems to get along.

Guys and Girls
NIU is complete with every typ of guy and girl imaginable. The typical frat guy and sorority girls, the scene artsy types, fashionistas, average joes, sports fanatics, and shy students. There are tons of social events and groups that give a chance for everyone to find their spot at NIU.
