Regestration is very easy. Actual class content is subpar. I find that I spend more time writing discussions and essays than I do actually learning course material.
Too much time is delegated to class discussions. If I did not have to write the discussions, I could actually take the time to study the material. I am attending school to learn, not to socialize. Also, some of the course content is weak.
I love the online schooling format. I would not be able to attend college if online schooling was not an option.
I recently took a class with a group project. The class was the capstone for general education and most of my peers were almost done with their programs. I had to do most of the work for the project. Out of 6 people, only two helped. The rest seemed barely literate and could not even use APA citations. How are students like these graduating? It makes me questionj the legitimacy of my own degree.
Generally Satisfied – I am happy with the flexibility. I work two jobs and am a single mother, yet I still manage to attend school almost full-time. I am very happy with the online format overall.
Expensive and Undue Attention to Discussions – Walden is very expensive and also places too much emphasis on discussions. Often I feel that I am spending more time working on discussion posts than I am on actually learning the material. I imagine that many online schools are similar in their approach and price point, but I have not researched it.
The financial aid department is helpful once you are qualified, but initiating the financial aid process is difficult and you are basically left on your own. The financial aid office is not helpful with providing scholarship and grant information.
