Big Classes but Great Advisors
I'm a History major but I've only taken 2 history classes so far. It seems like there's a range of professor quality, and there don't seem to be very many small seminar-style classes, even in upper levels, because history is such a popular major at Pitt (one of the largest). In terms of academic rigor, I have no qualms- the interest level could be amped up though. However, the advising dep't is great at keeping things personal and keeping students notified of job/internship/etc opportunities. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied.

Pitt Does Tech Great
There are plenty of computers available on campus, especially since most people do any real work on laptops. Don't wait until the last second to preint something for class because you'll be late, but the most I've ever had to wait for a computer is 10 or 15 minutes. We get plenty of free printing, the University offers lots of discounted and free software, and anytime you have a problem with your personal computer the technology people fix it for free. Only complaint is that the lab computers are suuuper slow- allow at least 3-5 minutes for logging on.

Party It up on Saturday, Study It up on Sunday
People at Pitt love their parties, and no matter how many letters the chancellor writes about the University's committment to keeping drinking safe and overage, everyone knows that it's not hard to get smashed underage, Thursday to Saturday. That's not to say that Pitt's exclusively a "party school", however. People love their alcohol and short dresses, but doing well in school is very important to Pitt students in general.
