Determined Diversity
The student body at Yale is designed to be diverse. Part of the admissions committees decision process rests on creating classes of Yalies who represent all types of people. I feel like I have met students who represent nearly every different political, economic, sexual, and ethnic identities at Yale. Students hail from dozens of countries and all 50 US states. That said, there certainly is a high percentage of students from the Northeast, but may be due to the Yale's location (which is, after all, in the Northeast).

Not for the Thin of Blood
New Haven is simply gorgeous in fall and spring: there are trees all over the place. Students flood intocdourtyards and Old Campus on warmer days to hang out, play frisbee, and watch passing tour groups.
It rains fairly frequently in the spring and fall, but not unnecessarily so (keeps the lawns green). Just bring your rain boots and umbrella.
Winter, however, is another story. It's not horribly cold in the Have, which means that most of our winter precipitation comes in the form of rain or ice. Ice also often collects on the gothic stone walkways and the wind can be bitter. As a Southern girl, winter is really difficult (especially so my freshmen year) but you find ways of compensating, such as exploiting dining hall coffee and curling up with friends and hot cocoa inside.

Sterling in the Spring
Spring in New Haven is notoriously rainy (buy your rain boots now!). This picture was taken during a day-long visit to Yale after admission.

Calhoun features dorms, a dining hall, a cabaret theatre, a dance studio, a pottery studio, gym/fitness center, buttery, and many other facilities.
Spring Fling 2009!
Spring Fling 2009!
Each spring, the Yale College Council hosts "Spring Fling," a day-long series of concerts on Old Campus. In 2009, the Decemberists, N*E*R*D, and Girl Talk, as well as many local and student performers, were there. Acts are chosen by the student population through an extensive survey process. This is one of the most popular campus-wide events of the year!
