Off-Campus Housing at Loyola Marymount University

B

Can You Pay? Marina Del Ray

Housing near campus ranges from very pricey to somewhat affordable (if you're looking at a "NORMAL"/realistic college student budget). The housing nearby is very nice and very.. luxury oriented, however there are more affordable options available in nearby cities like Culver City. Since the economic status of the students varies, so do their typical off-campus housing picks. LMU is home to many, many affluent students who make up the majority, but there are many students of 'normal' economic standing too.

Housing in Los Angeles is generally expensive, finding an apartment won't be hard, and splitting rent will bring the price down a lot, but you're looking at an average of $2,000/month for a studio-2bedroom (2 bed in the less expensive areas)

Greek Life at Loyola Marymount University

Not Too Big of a Deal

There is no frat/sorority row, which does seem like a detriment, but isn't so much. The greek life on campus is very active and very social, but not overbearing. Many people who are in frats/sororities don't "rep" their respective circles loudly and it's not a big deal if you're involved in one or not.

Inside Scoop at Loyola Marymount University

Last Choice, Best Choice?

You will hear many people grumbling about how LMU was their last choice school, and I have to admit, it wasn't my top choice too, BUT once you get there, you LOVE it. The small private school setting isn't as stuffy as you'd imagine and it's big enough to expand as much as you'd like, but small enough that you won't be swept up and lost. Teachers are great, classes are interesting and the campus is beautiful. There are many opportunities to get involved and being is Los Angeles is a HUGE plus!!!!

One issue you might face though is focus on economic status, it's a sub-culture, but it's definitely there.
