How is environmental sciences at Illinois Wesleyan University?

Is 'environmental sciences' too generalized? If Illinois Wesleyan University isn't very good, what schools are/where can I find out what schools do have good programs?

IWU has some great professors for environmental studies programs...there are also great internship opportunities in the community. IWU, in general, is definitely passionate about the subject.

At IWU environmental studies is not a science major so that gives it a disadvantage

Not very applicable as a major, tough to market yourself post graduation. Teachers are good however, and if its something you are interested in, worth further investigating

Amazing! Take a class with Sabina from the public policy department!

Environmental Sciences I believe isn't a major at UChicago. That being said, there is a lot of cutting edge research done in biology that might be of interest to you.

Environmental sciences are considered as one of the strongest departments.

Wesleyan's Environmental Science department is really good and has many opportunities for undergraduate research.

How is environmental sciences at DePaul University?

Is 'environmental sciences' too generalized? If DePaul University isn't very good, what schools are/where can I find out what schools do have good programs?ve good programs?

Hi Sarah, We have both an environmental science and an environmental studies program here at DePaul. Both a really great offering opportunities for undergraduate research as well as internships, jobs, and study abroad opportunities. If you want to see what the program is like, give our office a call at 773-325-7500 and we'll be happy to set up a class observation for you after you've applied.

DePaul offers various branches in environmental sciences, but I wouldn't be able to exactly specify which are they, since I don't major in sciences.

Environmental sciences are great. My professor was so helpful in everything and so dedicated to what he was doing. We even have a new building that is green and strictly for science.

DePaul have one of the best environment programs. I know in 2011 Depaul got numerous awards for helping and being environmental friendly.

How important are extracirriculars?

I'm a high school sophomore with a 4.0 GPA. I take 3 honors classes, and took 2 last year. I was in two school musicals, as well as a member of chorus. Next year, I will be taking 3 honors classes and 4 AP classes, and will be joining environmental club, National Honors Society, a volunteer club, and maybe some more. Senior year will be like my junior year. Reading through discussions, I see students who are involved in many more activities and go to prestigious private schools (mine is a decent public school.) I guess my real question is, should I be worried about not doing enough outside of school?

It's important to be well-rounded, so yes extracurriculars are important. Columbia is an ivy league school. You need to be taking all honor and AP classes, not any college prep or whatever the basic classes are called.

Overall, the more you join extracurricular activities, the more you will likely have a chance to get accpeted to these to these top universities. Also, you can receieve merit-scholarships for joining more clubs and activities at school and also volunteering community services. University of Chicago and Illinois Weslyan University are pretty tough to get into but as long you maintain your GPA high, earn an excellent ACT score (NOTE: Determines which University recommends), your teacher recommendation, your personal essay, and listing all types of clubs you join at school or outside-You will be most likely have a chance to get accepted to these great universities. There are also good universities that you might find interest such as UIC-University of Illinois at Chicago, Northwestern University, and of course University of Chicago. GOOD LUCK!!

Wesleyan would be perfect for you. Environmental activism is big on campus, so if you would like to pursue that, Wesleyan would have numerous opportunities for your future.

They are extra important because they help me to get through my schools academics

Extracurricular activities are important but they aren't the only thing, Depaul is very interested in knowing anything and everything about you, yourself. Don't try to seem too overachieving. College changes everything you know about yourself.

Extra curricular activities are important, however, you should focus more on school. Even though you are taking 3 honors courses and 4 AP classes and have a GPA of 4.0, I would focus more on academics before any sort of extracurricular activity.

As for DePaul, they highly appreciate students who are involved extracurricular activities. Depaul is highly-centered around community service, so I recommend you participate in volunteer work.
