Need-Based Aid

Need based financial aid at Smith College is pretty great -- the college promises to meet 100% of the projected need. This is pretty much necessary considering Smith costs a pretty penny.

Not the Best

Here's the thing with Smith Dining -- if you're a vegetarian or vegan, you're probably excited by the fact that you can eat at every meal. But actually looking at the overall quality and availability of food reveals that Smith's dining has a lot of room for improvement. First of all, there's no world where tofu anything should taste better than meat for those of us who really enjoy meat, and yet at Smith, that's oftentimes the case. The food is also regularly under/overcooked (rice, for example). There is also very little variety - most dining halls serve the exact same thing, minus the vegan/vegetarian dining and Julia Child's former house. It's important as well to note that if you want to make sure you get what's on the menu, go as soon as the dining halls open (we have restricted dining hours) or you might wind up eating something completely different. I've eaten at other places in the Five College area which have MUCH better food (ie, UMass).
