There is a lot to do and see in Boston. Fenway Park and our beloved Boston Red Sox are a few short blocks away from the Simmons Campus. Boston is known for its sports and there is always a place to go route on Boston/New England teams. Great restaurants and bars are everywhere to be found: the Back Bay, the South End, Cambridge, Fenway, Brookline, the water front, and more. The Museum of Fine Arts is a five minute walk from Simmons, and the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum is right next door. Boston is home to a number of other wonderful museums and art galleries. Students are very welcome in Boston as it is home to numerous colleges and universities. If students are looking to be in a friendly city, Boston is the place to be.
The School of Management at Simmons College has a brand new, beautiful building on campus. It includes two case rooms that are designed specifically for case discussion, and a number of small study rooms that are ideal for group meetings and projects. All professors and program directors are located on site.
Simmons is in the Longwood Medical Area in Boston, which is a heavy traffic area. It can be very difficult to find parking and parking in garages is very, very expensive. Fortunately, Simmons offers parking at a rate to students in its garage under the School of Management. However, it can be difficult to find a space on days when the Trustees are meeting or when there are big events going on. I try to park at meters on the streets around campus. This has become more difficult as meters have been taken away due to reasons unknown to this writer. However, I typically am able to catch an open spot before my night classes. Mind you, I am a working professional in addition to being a part-time MBA candidate so my experience may be different than a full-time or undergraduate student.
Plan to attend an MBA showcase if you are applying to the School of Management to earn your MBA. This provides you with a lot of useful information that is given to you by the leaders of the school as well as the opportunity to hear from a panel of students and to participate in a mock class where you read a brief case and participate in a case discussion. It is a great way to get a feel of the people in the program and what classes will be like. You will get the opportunity to see and speak with other prospective students. The Admissions Officer I worked with answered all of my questions and was available for an individual meeting when requested. The online application was similar to other schools to which I applied. As with any school, be able to articulate the skills and experience you will contribute to your peers and the discussion in the classroom.
I am in the Simmons College School of Management, which offers an MBA program designed for women. The course integrates gender, diversity, and social responsibility into all of its courses as opposed to other schools that offer these important topics as elective courses. The professors are very committed and accessible to students. The program directors are amazing and seem to respond to my needs at all hours of the day and night! I have built an incredible new network of working women who are very brilliant. The atmosphere is competitive, yet collaborative and supportive. We challenge each other and also want to see one another succeed. I recommend this program to any woman looking to earn her MBA; you will not be disappointed.
