Facilities at North Carolina State University

B+

Utilitarian but Solid, Clean and Green

The facilities on Central and North campus are a little old and aesthetically outdated, but they are solid, utilitarian structures. The science and engineering buildings are incredibly nice and up to date, though. The gym is an exceptionally large facility, and the library is enormous with lots of room and computers for studying. The Learning Commons is a great place to study in groups or just hang out, and it's always fun to watch the video games on the big screen TVs. Campus is pretty and they take good care of it in terms of cleanliness and beauty. Access to rich, green parks and courtyards in the area is abundant. The dorms tend to be older-looking, but the campus activities and sense of community make up for it.

Campus Strictness at North Carolina State University

A

Just Be Smart About Your Partying

If you keep your grades up and don't make much trouble in the dorms, you're good to go. You'll get more problems from city police than anyone else (e.g. parking violations, noise violations, underage drinking citations). Just don't let the parties get out of control, turn down the noise later in the night, and try to be careful where you park (carpool!). The school does keep an eye on your grades, though, and is fast to let you know when academic performance is unacceptable.

Inside Scoop at North Carolina State University

High Quality Professors and Academic Network

If you're here for science or engineering, you're getting an exceptional education. The humanities departments are small but of extraordinarily high quality. Frankly the university doesn't deserve them, but they really enrich an otherwise small community. That smallness is great if you like interaction with your professors. It can be difficult to get that level of interaction in the sciences and engineering schools though. Plus, the proximity of the Research Triangle Park, Duke University and the University of Chapel Hill make the quality of additional curricular activities very rewarding academically and professionally.
