Engineering at Northwestern

Overall, I think the engineering faculty and curriculum at Northwestern is excellent. Every freshman in the engineering program is required to take a course called Engineering Design and Communication. It allows freshman to work in teams and develop an actual product prototype for a client. As a part of the class, I learned about how a product is developed, how to communicate effectively with a client, and how to contribute to the success of a team. I think this class provides freshmen with relevant experience that will prepare them for work in the engineering field.

Athletics at Northwestern University

B

Popular Sports Are Okay, Less Popular Sports Are Great

I'm not really into athletics myself. I know that our school, while a part of the Big Ten, has a football team that manages to lose a number of games every year. Our basketball team is maybe a little better, but the real winning team happens to be the women's lacrosse team, which has had quite a few victories in the school's history I believe. However, there is still a large turnout for football games in the fall and school spirit is not weakend by our many losses. Athletic facilities such as gyms and recreations centers are pretty great. Also, club sports such as water polo and rugby are popular, and there are a variety of intermural sports to participate in, one of my favorites being ultimate frisbee.

Weather at Northwestern University

C

Well...

Well, the weather is gorgeous in the summertime. Unfortunately, this is the time of year when the majority of students have gone home for summer break. The winter is brutal. We are located close to the very windy city of Chicago and our campus is right next to Lake Michigan, so temperatures can get very low and it snows quite a bit. Classes don't really get cancelled so everyone just learns to deal with it. Just buy a good coat...and gloves...and a scarf...and boots.
