Decidedly Okay
Carleton meal plans, obligatory for on-campus students, are quite expensive for not too much value. That said, the food is on the better side of average. There is usually SOMETHING to eat in the dining halls, and sometimes it's something delicious. Sayles is a good bet for tasty food on your schedule.

Great System
There are tons of labs in various convenient locations on campus, and the computers there are fast and easy-to-use. It can be tough to get a computer in the middle of the night or at peak times during finals, but for the most part Carleton's computers are pretty great. We have have pre-logged-in machines for quick stuff like printing.

Pretty Laid-Back and Fun
Nightlife on weekends (Friday and Saturday nights) generally consists of drinking with your friends, whether in a party setting or just in someone's room. In general, it's pretty chill and comfortable. There are occasional campus-sponsored dances or parties that can be fun but also overwhelming. There are also a ton of performances and presentations to attend on any given weekend.

Underutilized but Present
There are tons of transportation options in the area, including a car-share service and several local and long-distance buses. For the most part, though, everything you need or want is within walking distance, and you will probably know someone who has a car for those all-important trips to Target.

Looming Threats but Mostly Lax
The school has recently (2011) issued some new safety and alcohol policies, changing a completely lax system to a slightly more structured one. The new policies don't seem to have any marked impact in practice. Result: As long as you aren't an idiot about drinking/streaking/whatever you can probably get away with it.

COLD. but in a Good Way.
Since Carleton is in Minnesota, we have extremely cold winters. But we, to a large extent, embrace them. There's a lot of sledding/snowball fights/snow-building at the beginning of winter term. After the novelty wears off, people tend to stay inside a lot more until it finally warms up during Spring term. The cold is a good bonding experience for everyone here. And the other seasons are lovely!
