Pretty Safe
I've never really felt unsafe on campus. We get few crime reports, and there are plenty of options for walking home at night, etc. There are occasional busts for drugs/alcohol in dorms, especially freshmen dorms, but if you're smart you're fine.

Should Be Obvious
CMU is mostly known for CS, so you would think the computers would be really good, but in general they're pretty old and slow. I've only used the Windows clusters, but most of those are XP and have crappy internet connections.

Lots of Variety...At First
When you first get to CMU, you're overwhelmed by choices of eating venues, but as the semester wears on the food quality generally starts seeming worse and worse and you really do just get bored...but compared to other schools it's not bad.

Not Much Nearby
There are places to eat nearby if you're willing to walk a while, like Panera or Qdoba, but for nice restaurants, or any kind of Asian food that isn't LuLu's, you have to search for a while.
