Downtown
The town of Blacksburg is almost entirely made up of Virgia Tech as there's not much else around. There is a little downtown area with a few good bars if you're over 21 but other than that there's not much to do.

Engineering
This school is mostly an engineering school and a high quality one at that. Almost half of each freshman class starts off as engineering majors but far less than that graduate with that degree. It's a tough program with a lot of work but definitely worth it with some high quality, amazing professors.

Lots of Options
Surrounding the school are multiple apartment complexes that are all on the bus route and not too far from campus. Almost everyone that isn't a freshman lives off campus since they aren't too expensive, depending on where you live, and are the main party scene.

Good System
The Blacksburg Transit is the school's main bus system and is very good for getting around any normal part of the day. The only drawback is that the last bus runs around 2:15am or so and since most people rely on it, that's when parties usually end. There's lots of routes to choose from when buses are sometimes full I just wish they went later.

Safe and Secure
Virginia Tech has to be one of the safest campuses in the country. Blue light outposts are located all over campus and can have 911 dialed with just the push of a button. There is a safe ride option where anytime it's dark, you can get a ride or escort anywhere on campus for free with no questions asked. Any crime is reported immediately through VT alerts so everyone is notified.

Bleaksburg
If there is one thing that Virginia Tech is known for, it's bad weather. We've earned the nickname of Bleaksburg here just because it's always windy and often cloudy or rainy. Once it snows, it never leaves until at least April. There's always a few nice days here and there but the Blacksburg winter is brutal. Definitely bring all of your cold gear.

Hokie Nation
There really is no place like Virginia Tech. The Hokie Nation has every opportunity available from different majors, to jobs to the hundreds of clubs and activities on and off campus. There is always something to do here especially on the weekends. Classes can be tough, but with enough hard work anyone can do well here. This is the most spirited school in the country and I'm proud to be a Hokie.
