Pretty Good – The bus service is great; however, this only applies to when school is in session. During breaks the buses operate on reduced service which can be inconvenient for graduate students or students staying during the summer.
The Megabus operates in the next town about 10 miles away so you can get pretty much anywhere in the US and Canada without paying too much. There is also HomeRide VA which provides transportation to Northern Virginia and Richmond. This is very overpriced but also very convenient for students. The bus picks up on Friday afternoons from the Library and returns Sunday evening.
Roanoke airport is about 30 minutes from campus. This is one of the most expensive airports in the states, however.
Cab service outside of Blacksburg to nearby cities is limited but a service called HooptieRide provides late night/ weekend cab services for students attending bars/parties in Blacksburg. The prices are pretty fair.

Virginia Tech Diversity was reviewed by

Could Be Better – There are students from all over the world attending Virginia Tech. It seems that the majority of graduate students are international students, and several campus programs are dedicated to improving diversity and helping international students feel more comfortable. There is always a place where students with different backgrounds and interests can find their niche. Although there is immense diversity throughout the school, some programs seem to attract only certain types of students. For example, the majority of undergraduate engineering majors seem to be white males.
