Very Safe
Since Hamilton is such a small town, I always feel completely safe at Colgate. I walk back to my dorm from the library (a 5-7 min walk) at all hours of the night and occasionally walk to and from town by myself when it's dark; I always feel safe. Plus, if you're not comfortable walking to or from town, you can always take the cruiser (Colgate's bus system). Campo (campus safety) is known to be pretty alert when it comes to partying and drunkness, though, so be careful.

Pretty Spacious
Freshmen dorms are pretty nice -- Curtis dorms tend to be tiny, but doubles elsewhere and suites are nicer than on most campuses I've seen. The freshman dorms are also really close to academic buildings so you can pretty much wake up five minutes before class if you want.

Always Something to Do
Since both the campus and Hamilton are small, the nightlife consists of house parties, frat parties and bars; we don't have any clubs. The fact that most students stay on campus is nice, though - you're constantly meeting people from Colgate. You can definitely find something to do almost any night of the week.

The Gym and the Library Are Amazing
Trudy, our gym, is brand new is fantastic. If you love working out, you will love Colgate. Our library is also very new and a great place to study; it's five floors, is gorgeous, and offers tons of areas for individual and group study. The Coop (a grill and study space) was designed to look like a ski resort and has a huge fireplace.

Never Want to Leave
My experience at Colgate has been amazing. You have to work hard if you're planning on getting the grades you got in high school, but Colgate students definitely embrace the "work hard, play harder" philosophy. There's always something to do at night, whether you drink or not, and tons of great clubs to get involved in.

Greek Life Is Very Laid-Back
Greek life isn't dominating at Colgate and if you want to be in one, you don't have to deal with ridiculous pledging (at least for sororities). The worst things girls have to is, like, not wear make-up for a couple of weeks.

Oh, the Points System
Since it's so new, we don't really know how well it will work for the students... it seems to be a good idea - if you're caught drinking/drunk you get a couple of points at most. Your parents aren't notified until you get 4 points and, there aren't serious consequences until then. A word of advice: dorms are too small for parties NOT to be busted. Just go to a real party, freshmen. Be smart and you won't get in serious trouble.

It's Do-Able
Academics aren't ridiculous at Colgate, it's just a lot of work. If you want As, you're going to need to spend a lot of time in the library (which is beautiful, so no one minds). Professors are always available and are usually pretty helpful. If you're not willing to take any classes except those within your major, though, take a look at Colgate's core.
