Off-Campus Dining at Allegheny College

B

Brooks N' Kins

Brooks all-you-can-eat dining tends to be not stellar by any means; McKinley's a la carte has much improved since my freshman year, especially with the addition of local breads, muffins and produce, but the prices tend towards the outrageous--4.50 for a sandwich? 7 for a salad with meat? I might as well go downtown for slightly better quality food and more reasonable prices. The dining staff, though, for the most part, are really excellent.

Campus Housing at Allegheny College

Quality/Cost

I lived in the Brooks complex the first three years of my collegiate experience, and it certainly left a lot to be desired in terms of privacy, cleanliness and noice. I now reside in North Village the first, which is incredible and I love having my own room while still having people around me. That said, it is incredibly expensive--if something could be done to reduce the cost, or if I was given the option of not having to have a meal plan (especially since I have the smallest, which ends up being the most expensive per Brooks swipe), it would be much easier on me financially.

Don't Have Much Personal Experience...

I have never lived off campus, but I know you lose some financial aid. I am told, however, that in the long run you end up saving money. Off-campus housing would have been something I seriously considered had I not been so utterly dependent on my financial aid.
