How hard are admissions for transfer applicants at UNC-CH?

Probably easier to get into this college as a transfer than a freshman

super easy as a transfer

This is a completely serious question and I would like it to be answered as truthfully as possible. Do ECU students tend to be fairly intelligent? I ask because of ECU's rather inclusive admissions standards (We've all heard the EZU jab.) I realize that being inclusive does not mean that a university is of poor quality, but I would like to know what kind of intellectual presence ECU has to offer.

really

The school has a diverse student body. You'll find a lot of different people, of course intellectuals, from all walks of life. However, you will run into a lot of locos on the daily basis, whether it be in class or just around campus...hope this helps.

Is there any sort of competition for joining an RLC or are you automatically granted membership simply by declaring intention to join the community on your housing application?

There is some competition based on the RLC you choose. Black and Gold and Sophomore Experience get a lot of applicants, where more specialized RLC liks AsUnity, Brain Matters, and Music accept a smaller number of people.

According to several student reviews on this site, JMU's student body is composed primarily of conservative Christians. Yet, according to College Prowler's rankings, the school is noticeably more liberal than conservative. I'm pretty confused. What is the reality of politics at JMU?

I don't think the school is very political to begin with. If I had to give it a collective political identity it would be middle-of-the-road. I have yet to encounter a significant number of Christian Conservatives here either. I believe the school is more conservative than your average American university but that certainly doesn't make it a conservative institution overall.

According to College Prowler's rankings, ECU is one of the most closed-minded schools in the country. Would you disagree with this? Can you think of any factors that would account for this unflattering ranking? Also, is the student body particularly conservative in a political sense?

I don't know why this comment was made and I'm not saying this because I am an alumnus. Were there any reasons listed as to why? From my experience, it was a very diverse and open institution through promotion of activity or involvement and education.

I really don't know what CP's criteria are for determining the ranking. I visited ECU's campus and the students seemed pretty friendly and did nothing to indicate that they were intolerant individuals. It seemed like a very nice school and I was quite taken aback by the ranking. Regardless, I'm sure the student body is much better than the ranking would indicate. Thank you for your reply.

You are welcome. Unless the atmosphere has dramatically changed since I left in 2007 then I wouldn't go by that rating. Also, if the ratng is not specific to give reasoning for its judgement then I would totally disregard it.

Can any out-of-state students tell me if you received a decent amount of financial aid?

Yes, I have heard many out-of-state students mentioning they got a good amount.

I have heard there is an RLC for art majors in Eggers Hall called Art Haus. Can anyone tell me what the atmosphere is like in Eggers? And, if possible, can anyone tell me more about Art Haus?

Eggers is one of the worst dorms on campus. It's very old and the rooms are small. However despite, or perhaps because of, this, it has a great community aspect to it. Art Haus is a great mix of people just because the "Arts" is just a diverse term. My roommate was a photography major while I was a theatre major. I definitely recommend joining an RLC, it's a great way to make friends right off the bat.

I've just been accepted into VCUarts. I am incredibly excited and relieved, but I am now faced with a dilemma. You see, I am from OoS and the tuition would be substantially greater than that of an in-state institution. Studying art at VCU is my dream, but I cannot easily afford it. Can any VCUarts students from OoS give me some advice? Has your experience been worth the higher cost?

I have studied in the VCUarts program, and unless you are 1000% positive that you want to study arts for the four years you have in college..don't put yourself in that financial hardship.

We are #4 in the nation with the best Sculpture and Illustration programs as of now. I am a senior at the Illustration (ComArts) program and it is worth it.

I know Appalachian has a very scenic campus. But do students get a chance to truly take in the mountain scenery? Are the best views an inconvenient drive away or is the immediate campus scenically mountainous in itself?

The campus is surrounded by mountains and both the Blue Ridge Parkway and a park that overlooks the town are no more than ten minutes away. Its beautiful no matter which way you look.

There are a lot of scenic mountain views right on campus, especially if you go to the 4th floor of the new Student Union addition or go to one of the Bodenheimer Drive dorms like the LLC or App Heights.
