Local Atmosphere at Carnegie Mellon University

A

Fun Mid-Sized City

Pittsburgh is a good place to live. If you're into sports, it's a premier place to be. Same for art. Lots of good places to eat and the people here seem really nice.

Academics at Carnegie Mellon University

A

Good Professors

I'm an ECE major and it's definitely a hard workload. The good part is that the professors are really smart and they can help you with a lot of stuff. It's worth all the work because I feel like I'm really learning instead of going through the motions.

Health & Safety at Carnegie Mellon University

A-

I Feel Pretty Safe

Pittsburgh isn't really a dangerous city in the first place. Even so, the campus police are cool and want to help, not ruin the fun. I for sure would count on them if i needed to but I don't see that happening.

Athletics at Carnegie Mellon University

B

Pretty Good Athletics

CMU has the best sports program in D3 bar none. We have dedicated and talented players and we could probably hold our own in a low D1 conference but this school really hates spending money. Like most schools, football is the sport of choice for spectators, though it's rare to see full stands except maybe homecoming and if there's free food. A lot of athletes go and support each others sports. Students respect athletes but we don't have any special status here, which I'm fine with. For such a science/art based school we have a surprisingly athletic student body, given that almost everybody I know does some kind of IM sport.

Diversity at Carnegie Mellon University

B-

Kind of Overrated Really

This school prides itself on this but frankly I don't see it. The overwhelming majority of students are white, asian or indian. Having a lot of people of 1 or 2 minorities does not make diversity. One positive note is how openly accepting the school is of homosexuals, it's really admirable. Also, we do have some people from europe/south america and it's cool to get to know their cultures. I have friends from china and india and I like the experience that offers.

Greek Life at Carnegie Mellon University

B+

CMU Greek Life

Overall greek life here is a big presence but it's really not necessary to be in one and no one cares if you are or not. Their parties are pretty good for the most part, I went to a lot freshman year. Really though, some of the things frats do here are just ridiculous. I heard about one that stole a rich guy's tree and lots of other things.

Campus Dining at Carnegie Mellon University

B

Decent

The food here is better than people make it sound. Some is delicious, some isn't. Get off the meal plan asap though, it's expensive and not worth it.

Campus Housing at Carnegie Mellon University

A-

A Lot of Dorm Pride

I lived in donner last year. The rooms were big and in pretty good shape and everyone really gets passionate about their dorm. It's really fun especially during the first week.
