Downtown Iowa City Has So Much to Offer
When dining in downtown Iowa City the possibilities are endless. Whether you want to sit down, stand up, have a loud and fun atmosphere, or quiet and relaxed, whether you want traditional american food or a foreign cuisine, they have got it all. One of my favorite places to eat is Shorts. It is a burger joint that is very relaxed and comfortable with creative decorations and a unique set up. There are a lot of restaurants that are more expensive than others, you just have to discover for yourself which ones are worth the cost.

Apartments Vary in Iowa City
It depends on who you are renting from or how lucky you get when looking for apartments. Apartments Downtown is not a very good place to rent from, often charging you for things that were not your fault and just not being dependable in general. Many of their apartments are very similar looking and there is not a lot of variety. In my opinion it is best to rent from an independent landlord. There are many apartments on campus that vary from more expensive to less expensive generally depending how close or far away they are from the pentacrest. It is also generally more expensive to live in the dorms rather than an apartment. Some students who live in the apartments also get a meal plan even though they do not live in the dorms so they dont have to cook.

Under 21 Bars Are No More
My favorite part about the social scene and Iowa City's downtown nightlife was that not all bars are 21 only. 19 and 20 year old have a place to go and have fun and dance and be in a safe and monitored area. However, with the new 21 ordinance that goes into effect June 1st they are making the bars 21 only. Even though this is a bummer, it does bring up something I also find unique and enjoyable in Iowa City. Due to the fact that this has angered a lot of citizens and students, there have been people on the street asking for passers by to sign the petition to bring this ordinance to a vote. The pentacrest and areas around it are a place for people to express their views and speak out against things they do not agree with, which I think is unique and cool.
