What is the best thing about University of Richmond? What sets it apart from similar liberal arts colleges in the south-east? Also, what is the worst thing? Lastly, what did you NOT EXPECT going into the school?

What are the humaities like? Are they as strong or well funded as the maths and sciences? Are the professors as enthusiastic?

What's it like to be a Christian at Haverford? I know that the community is largely liberal, but does the respect mentioned in the honor code extend to religious and political disagreements?

I understand that there is a fair amount of drinking at Haverford, like any other school. But is it the sort thing that ends up dominating social interactions, or is it just a "some kids drink a lot-some kids don't" atmosphere? Basically, to "fit in" is there a lot of pressure to drink?

Swarthmore College had a new discussion posted by StormEyes

What are the Christian groups like at Swarthmore?

Swarthmore is very left, liberal and many teachers and students have strong beliefs that don't correspond with a strict Biblical interpretation. If you are a conservative Christian, you'll find Swarthmore very oppressive.

Thanks, I did get that impression...it's a shame though, I like SO many things about the school.

If your faith is at the core of your values and you want to live your life for God. Don't come here. If it is something you believe in but you are still liberal. Just be aware of the environment you are entering.

im sorry but you are so wrong

How does all the drinking affect classes? What about the social atmosphere? Are there any social events where alcohol does NOT make an appearance?

Anyone want to volunteer an answer?

I wouldn't say it affects classes too much, I hope people with early morning classes on Thursday are responsible enough to not go out the night before (Wed. is a big party night). I haven't noticed it, at least. Drinking occurs at all the parties, but I know a lot of people who don't drink and still enjoy going out.

Okay, thank you!

People here prioritize. Drinking is prevalent, but not necessary pressured. Every single person I know here puts school first, and there's absolutely a work hard/play hard atmosphere.

Drinking is at 95% of parties, and is a big part of the social scene (at least for people involved in Greek Life). But there's not really an obligation to drink and it's highly unlikely that anyone would judge you for not drinking. There's people from every walk of life in every sort of "social group" that don't drink, and I would never say it's something that will limit your social or academic life.

Washington & Lee University Greek Life had a new discussion posted by StormEyes

I've heard a lot of positive things about W&L's greek system. But if you had one complaint about greek dominance on campus, what would it be?

It's expensive.

How so?

For Frats is around $5000 per year. For Sororities it's more like $2000. Super high compared to a lot of places.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Also, there's a large separation of girls and boys at W&L as a result of the greek system. After freshmen year, everyone goes to their greek houses for meals & you mostly only see the opposite sex in class or at parties.

Oh, that is a little odd. Good to know though, thanks!

Quiz14 is right. There's definitely a gender relations problem around campus. That's not to say boys and girls aren't good friends, more so that there's just not a lot of interaction after freshman year aside from classes, studying, and going out. Boys and girls live and eat separately, so during the week it's just natural that you're less likely to hang out with a girl.

I personally am a Greek male and have lots of friends that are girls. We hang out with them on a regular basis, so I think gender relations is what you make of it.

I know that there are several Christian groups on campus. Are they very active? Which ones are best attended? I also heard that one of the sororities has a Christian affiliation of some sort. How does that work?
