Campus Dining at Colby College

A-

Good

The food is good here. You have to mix it up between the dining halls or you'll get bored and it will get repetitive, but if you have a good mix then the food is really very good. There aren't really any options other than the dining halls either.

Nightlife at Colby College

B

Not a Party School

Colby isn't a party school, but there is still a lot of drinking. The senior apartments are always throwing down, but you can't get into those unless you know someone or you're on a team. If you want to drink, you'll always be able to find a place to though.

Overall Experience at Colby College

Get Involved

As a freshman, I didn't play a varsity sport, and I didn't join any organizations, which made it hard for me to enjoy the school as much. Like at dinner time, a third of the school, including all of the people I hung out with, would be leaving practices and eating with their teams. So I found myself alone a lot. But second semester, I actually started joining things, and I realized what a great place this is.

Academically, I'm always challenged by great professors, who are reasonable and don't try to break you with work. At a small school like this, they're very friendly and always willing to help. They wouldn't have come here if they weren't. They really emphasize learning how to write well, and my writing has improved dramatically since I arrived here.

On the party scene, I drink and smoke a decent amount, and I found it quite easy to do those things whenever I chose to. But I know many people who don't do either and they have a lot of fun on the weekends too. No judgements.

It's kind of annoying how everyone is from northeastern prep schools too. But all my complaints about Colby are pretty small and petty. It's a great place to go to school.

Inside Scoop at Colby College

I've Only Ever Been to One College

so I'm not really sure what sets it apart.

It's a small school, so obviously don't come here if you don't want your professors knowing your name and holding you personally accountable. And if seeing someone you know when you walk into a dining hall is something that bothers you, you should also stay away.

Frankly, I don't think there is a humongous difference between Colby, Bates, etc. If you choose this type of school, then you should know what you're getting yourself into. But, it's really what you personally make of it. Colby's a great place to go to college though. The only unhappy people here are the ones who clearly didn't understand that it's a small, rural school before they showed up.
