How competitive is the Economics major?

Economics major is pretty competitive and will need hard work from the student. It is not a cake walk.

Oh ok because I've heard that it is not one of the more competitive majors to be accepted to...

Does this school give any consideration at all to alumni relations?

Yes, especially if your parents attended the school.

Are you sure? I hope so bit I've read on college board and other sites that UT does not consider it. And does it matter if it was for undergrad or graduate school?

Is Austin and the UT campus safe for biking? I know parking is beyond horrible

Yes, I've visited there before. There are many bike racks and other places to keep it when you're not riding. From what I've seen, many students bike around campus.

Yes! I live in Austin and just about every student bikes. Austin is a very biker friendly city that has many bike lanes and drivers are very careful to leave room on the side of roads

I'm applying this fall for fall 2014, and if you are a fairly strong applicant, how soon would you get accepted?

You get accepted soon but it will take awhile since there are a long process of going through everyone.

@sullikuang are you in the top 7% bcuz thats auto admission?

I am out of state, but yes if that makes a difference

I'm out of state and I was accepted at the end of January

what were your stats? sat, gpa, ECs?

31 on the act and a 3.9 GPA, cheerleading (captain for 2 years), choir, various clubs for all for years and a little bit of volunteer work

When did you apply? I am planning on sending in my app in early August

I applied to the business school and I'm pretty sure my app was in by the end of September

How is the Plan II Honors program? Is the course load manageable and worth it?

I'm not a Plan II student, but I hear it's a good handful, especially when it comes to the science courses. I wouldn't become a Plan II major, honestly I don't understand the purpose of it.

Do you know anything about the Liberal Arts Honors program? I was thinking about majoring in Economics...

I'm thinking of majoring in economics as well, and am curious as to what the courswork is like and how selective of a major it is
