Shockingly Laid Back
There is plenty of diversity in appearance and personality, and it is impossible to not find friends with similar interests. Many of the students dress very nicely absolutely every day, but there is also a great number of students who appreciate a good sweat pants day. For the most part, everyone is surprisingly down to Earth and willing to help each other.

Heavy Security
The university does everything in its power to keep the students safe. There are always plenty of security officers roaming around campus (and they are very friendly, I must add). There are plenty of options for late night transportation (such as the mini-bus and security escort service) so students don't have to walk back to their dorms alone. There are also many "blue lights" scattered around campus. These devices have an emergency button you can press and security will be on site within the minute. They also have a phone attached so you can request a security escort. As far as I know, every residential college dean and freshman counselor provides freshmen with their cell phone numbers within the first week for emergency purposes as well. Security tries its best to keep the students aware of situations on campus, and although I receive more emails from the police chief about muggings than I would prefer, I generally feel very safe on campus.

Amazing Food
I haven't dined off campus all that often, but I have heard that the restaurants in New Haven are great. I know from experience that New Haven has absolutely amazing pizza, and you can find all sorts of quality restaurants close to campus featuring every variety of food imaginable. There is also "Restaurant Week", which is when restaurants give lunch and dinner specials to students so they can get a taste for the menu. Wall Street Pizza is a favorite of mine. They serve amazing pizza and breakfast items all day, and students get a 10% discount when they present their ID.

So Much Variety!
Every facility you can imagine is available to you. There is a huge gym that provides exercise programs and classes for a fee (or you can just go with your friends and use the equipment). Every residential college also has a gym. There are numerous libraries on campus with a daunting number of books, and they are very nice places to study. The campus is absolutely beautiful and every student has access to amazing resources.

Really Yummy and With Great Variety
I personally love the food on campus, and I rarely eat off campus because I know I will always have a great meal waiting for me in one of the many dining halls. There are options for almost every diet, and if you don't find what you need you can most certainly request it. Since freshmen have to purchase the full meal plan anyway, students should definitely take advantage of what the dining halls have to offer.

Safety First, Then Consequences
So far I haven't really heard of students getting into severe trouble this year, but it definitely can happen. Plagiarism is taken very seriously, and due to recent Title IX disputes, there has definitely been great pressure to improve the sexual environment on campus. I'm pretty sure I had to go to 4 required "sex talks" within my first two weeks because the administration wants to prevent unhealthy relationships and misconduct. Overall, the safety of the student is the primary concern. Punishment for behavior usually comes second.
