Neuroscience

The neuroscience major currently is still in its infancy in Bucknell. They recently just revamped and reorganized the curriculum, which has improved the major significantly. However, since the department has no dedicated neuroscience faculty, the professors teaching the neuroscience classes belong to either the biology department, the psychology department, or the animal behavior department. While this doesn't affect the quality or focus of the neuroscience courses, it does limit the amount of pure neuroscience research that students can be involved with on campus, since they are also competing with students from the other majors to participate.

However, much of the faculty are very well-known and respected in their field, and are both knowledgeable and enthusiastic about both their research AND teaching. Professors who don't want to teach don't last long at Bucknell.

Socially, the neuroscience majors are treated by the rest of the school (that is, everyone except the engineers, physicists and chemists) with a combination of awe (You must me soooo smart!) and disbelief (Wow that sounds so hard, how do you do that?). It is, in fact, a difficult major with a high number of required courses, but it's totally worth the work!
