Amazing from My Limited Experience
I just finished my first quarter at Davis and it was definitely everything I could hope for and more. The professors were great and from what I heard were really helpful during office hours. They definitely expect more than high school but I didn't feel like it was a huge change and I'm managing my courses fairly easily while balancing that with orchestra and band. I'm an animal science major and have gotten tons of hands on experience even in my first quarter of being here.

TAPS Is Suck.
I live on campus and am not allowed to have a car but I was stuck with mine for the first two weeks of school. I couldn't find anywhere to park it one night because the street was being cleaned so I parked it next to my dorm at around 10 and left it there until about 9 in the morning hoping that I wouldn't get a ticket. $45 later, I decided to sit in the car and wait the 4 hours while the street was swept the next week.

Everything I Could Have Wanted and More.
I was originally attracted to Davis because of their animal science program and now that I'm here, I can't imagine a better place to be. In my first quarter, not only have I spent hours wrestling a sheep, training it for a stock show, vaccinated a baby goat and milked a cow, but I've also played on the Las Vegas strip with the band-uh and played Don Juan with the symphony orchestra, not to mention the fact that we're going to Spain this spring. Everyone here is extremely friendly and there are tons of organizations and programs that can help you with any problem you may have.
It's totally worth risking some pepper spray in the face every once in a while.

Delicious and Nutritious
Most people will say that their campus dining halls have gross food, boring food or really repetitive food. I'm happy to say that Davis dining halls are almost none of these. The food is generally delicious and original (occasionally someone'll get lazy at the pizza oven and put out some undercooked pizza bagels). Some items such as grilled cheese, mongolian barbecue and cheeseburgers are served at almost every lunch and dinner and every breakfast (as far as I know, I've only gone to breakfast maybe 3 times this quarter) has an omelet bar. But there's also a lot of variety. Whether it's the random theme nights that they have like harry potter night or comfort food night, or a new kind of pasta, there's usually something there for everyone and there's always a good healthy option.
I must say that although there are lots of different things that they serve and they are coming out with new things all the time, there is a certain taste that is common amongst the majority of the food which I guess can make it a bit monotonous, I'm still enjoying it.

Kind of Seems Like You're Paying for Friends
I'm not associated with any sort of greek life, nor am I particularly interested in partying, but from the outside looking in, it looks like a lot of money to pay to be part of a club.
They do hold quite a bit of parties that are open to non-greeks too which from what I hear is pretty much the majority of the party scene here.
The people that I have talked to who are in any of the sororities or fraternities seem to love it though, so if that's your thing...

Pretty Nice
Many of the buildings on campus are really nice if not brand new. The residence halls range anywhere from 50 - 2 years old but they're starting to tear down the old one. I'm actually in what I think is the oldest dorm right now and I really don't see much of a difference. you're stil getting the same sized room and same amenities, the only real difference is the outside appearance which is still pretty nice.
The ARC is the gym on campus and it's a few years old and is really nice. The gym is fantastic and the building itself is really cool
Even the older buildings on campus are still completely functional and the age of the building doesn't change anything.

Unitrans Is Awesome.
Most people use bikes to get around campus. It's really flat and its an easy way to get to your classes. People joke about the bike circles and upperclassmen setting up lawn chairs to watch people crash into each other the first few days of classes, but to be honest, unless you're completely incompetent, you should be fine. Plenty of people choose to walk to classes too and that's fine as well.
For farther distances, there's unitrans, a student run bus system that goes throughout davis. The bus lines go pretty much anywhere you'd want to go and are clean and nice busses. Not to mention that they're free with your ID card. For even farther distances, like going to Sacramento or the airport there's the yolo busses which are also free with your id card. These are also clean and nice, but a little sketchy at night in Sacramento, but I guess you'd see that in any city really.
