The General Biology Major at UCSD
This major is very impacted and extremely competitive. The program forces you to take more classes than required at most other universities. The lower division classes have nothing to do with the major either (math, general chemistry, physics), so for a person like me that loves biology but is horrible at all of the three aforementioned, it is pure hell. I am suffering a low gpa due to having to take classes I absolutely detest. Only now do I get to take upper divison actual biology classes. The professors of these lower divisions are all Ph.Ds and doctors within that area and are NOT teachers. They know TOO much about these topics and so these lower divison classes that have no relevance to your major will be very difficult and workload is extremely high. Facilities are all over the place because it is such a huge university. You have to manually look for interships and job opportunities- it is difficult to do so because of the time you need to spend studying however.

Computers at UCSD
Great wireless access everywhere on campus. There are many computer labs and all computers are brand new- the only thing is the far walk because the university is so huge and everything laid out very sparsely.

Dorms and Apartments at UCSD
Depending on which college you attend, the location of dorms can be either good or really horrible.
The best are ERC and Thurgood Marshall located near RIMAC gym and Geisel Library. Next tied are Muir-located near the Main Gym and the Old Student Center and also near the science buildings and Warren- located near Price Center. Worse is Sixth College- casted almost outside of campus. I've been in Sixth college territory only twice in 2 years of being at UCSD.
Housing structure: ERC is the best, Revelle's is the worst (smells bad too) and all others in between. Mine (Marshall) looks like prison with its white-gray cement buildings.
Housing conditions: I lived in a single both years and it was cool because it was my own space and I got HORRIBLE roomates both times. I hate even just having dorm/apartment-mates even if we're not sleeping in the same room because they are SO dirty or really boring or really weird. Second year apartments really sucked because they would never wash their dishes and my single near the kitchen smelled so much. There were ALOT of silverfish. I am SO glad to get out of there.
There is also no air conditioning. Heating system is great but my roomates would always turn it off- cons of sharing dorms/apts!
Cost: expensive- around $600/month and rising
Housing pick: Random! Hate this aspect.
