Alcohol, Drugs = Usual – I feel like any college you go to will have their share of alcohol and drug use. Often, you'll see students smoking weed, but there's no hard drugs used among most students. Drinking is more popular, mostly seen at the local bars, the main scene for nightlife.

Dorm Life... Meh – The dorm life at UMD isn't terrible, but moving into the apartments as an upperclassmen is so much better. Students do not have a choice but to join the dining plan living in the dorms. In addition, there is a lack of housing at UMD. Often, a room meant for two people and ample room may be converted into a forced triple and be uncomfortable living for a semester.

The dining plan and the shops at the Stamp Union can get boring sometimes, so the alternative is to eat at the restaurants on Route 1. It is within walking distance and offers many restaurants of different varieties. There are your typical chain places like Dominos, Quiznos, etc., and then there's your smaller restaurants like Wasabi (Sushi) and Jason's Deli (Sandwiches). The places have reasonable prices around $8-10 a meal, and happy hour at the local bars provide cheaper choices for students.
