Greek Life Isn't Everything
At Ball State, there are plenty of Greek organizations, but the only time the school pitches them to you is at orientation. They do a good job of promoting Greek life without making students feel pressured to join. If you are a non-Greek on campus, it's not that big of a deal. Your choice to not join Greek life is respected which makes it much easier to do what you like on campus without feeling pressure to join certain clubs and organizations. It's really a great atmosphere.

Parking Cars Is a Hassle and Not Needed
Most incoming freshman seem to think that they need to bring a car to school, especially if they had one in high school. But the hassle of having a car at school is not worth it. Most freshman are forced to park in the lot by the football feild, which is on the north side of campus away from all the dorms and academic buildings. The cars also have to be moved on nights of a football game. The community provides a bus service that travels all around town and is free to students, so why hassle with the car permit and the walk to and from your car if you can just hop on the bus?

It's a Mess
I had a messy time with financial aid. the school gave me a small grant and now I'm stuck with taking out loans. I talked with the financial aid office to see if it was possible to get more grant money, but it was a huge hassle and nothing came of it. My advice: get a job and save up big time for college, even if it means you can't go shopping with your friends. It's better to know you've got money for college than a shirt that you won't wear in the next few months.
