Off Campus Dining...
At Warren Wilson, there are surrounding areas that have tons of places to eat and hang out, whether it is 11:00 A.M. or 9:00 P.M.. However, the buses are completely unreliable, and freshman on campus cannot have a car, so plan carefully how much time you really have to spend waiting at a bus stop just to get some off-campus food.

Somewhat Accessible, Printing Is Awful...
There are a few computer labs on campus, but none are open all night, which is hard for students without personal computers. Printers are also difficult to come by unless you catch the library before 10:30 at night; if you don't, the Jensen printer is pretty finicky, too. Personal computers are a good idea, along with your own printer-they save time and long walks.

Fifty/ Fifty...
Some students choose to live off-campus, and they have an okay time of it; it is relatively cost-efficient. Otherwise, many of the upperclassmen live on campus so that they don't have to drive.

If You Like It Dirty...
If you like campus housing that looks nice from afar and is filthy close-up, then WWC is the place for you. The buildings are generally all right, but really, they don't get cleaned as thoroughly or as often as they should. Also, upperclassmen housing is a bit of a hike.

Diversity?
WWC has little diversity. Most of the people here are white kids who want to not shower and aspire to work on a farm. There are some very friendly international students, but the ratio of African American students to Caucasians is about 50:1.

Asheville Is Great...
Asheville and Black Mountain are great cities; there is always something to do. However, public transportation is unreliable, and getting to Black Mountain requires multiple bus changes. Most people don't have cars, which is an issue. However, there are wonderful vegetarian/ vegan options and lots of cool shops.

The Atmosphere Is Liberal and Hippie
Despite Asheville being smack in the middle of the rural south, it is a fun city with lots of cool cafes and coffee shops. The people in the city are basically grown-up versions of WWC students; people who like the outdoors, and who aren't confined by society's rules of personal hygiene will love it here.

Something for Everyone...
While Gladfelter and Cowpie generally aren't that clean, their food is pretty okay most nights. Vegetarians and vegans will find no problems in their search for healthy, meatless, or dairy-free foods. However, when meals aren't happening, there isn't a place that will sell you food on campus. It's an issue.

Overall...
My experience at WWC has been okay. However, I am transferring after one semester. I realized that I was not a hippie, and that I wanted to be in a place where people challenged themselves academically and cared about their surroundings and personal hygiene. Come here if you want to learn an outdoor skill, to learn how to get away with not showering, to learn how to do tons of drugs, and become an environmental science major. Otherwise, it's not the place for you.

Terrible.
The buses that go around WWC are completely unreliable. Freshman aren't able to have cars, and most upperclassmen don't have them either. Generally, transportation is an obstacle.

What They Tell You Isn't True.
I am not cynical. This is really what the guides don't tell you:
-The academics here aren't challenging, and kids aren't motivated to do much other than smoke pot or make hemp necklaces.
-Many people don't shower, so bring your gas mask.
-If you aren't the most environmentally conscious person ever, people here will look down on you--hippies are just as pretentious as WASPs.
-The music and theater programs here are lackluster.
-Fun activities are few and far between.

Two Words: Unclean Hippies
It's true. Most of the people here, while nice people who will help you if you need it, are generally not as clean or as well-dressed as society bids average. If you enjoy dreadlocks, ripped clothes from Goodwill, and laid-back people, then dating here will be great. Almost everyone on campus identifies as bisexual at some point, too.

History Major - Yeah!
I love being a history major at Earlham. The program is well-funded, has some of the best teachers on campus, and has a wide variety of history classes concerning almost all parts of the world. The facilities are wonderful (the Social Sciences building was built in 2002) and the workload is challenging, but never overwhelming.

"Moist"
Earlham aspires to be a dry campus, but everyone knows that since college is college, there is no such thing as a completely dry campus. We affectionately refer to Earlham as "moist," because there is alcohol on campus and sometimes it can seem a little overwhelming. However, there is no pressure to drink or do drugs, and you can always find something to do on campus that doesn't involve substances.
