Lots of Variety!
Off-campus housing at BYU is awesome! There's a wide variety of expensive, really cheap, and moderately priced apartments, houses, etc. Some complexes are known as being super social, others not so much, so pretty much whatever social scene you're into, there's a complex for you! If you want to live within walking distance, there's apartments for you! And if you want to live farther away, there's tons of those, too!
In a word, off-campus housing is great and there's something for everyone!

...Only If You're Mormon
Since BYU is run by the LDS Church, students are expected to live according to certain standards: no drinking, drugs, pre-marital sex, etc. For LDS students and others interested in avoiding those things, the nightlife is great! You can go to a party or dance and not worry about being subjected to alcohol, drugs, and other riff raff. But for those not looking to avoid that, then the nightlife would be rather drab. So, it all depends on a person's disposition and perspective.

Snow...
Fall and spring are super nice around campus! Winters can get kind of sketchy, just depending on how much snow there is. Even when there is snow, BYU does a great job of clearing sidewalks, etc. to make things easier for students, but cold weather can be kind of a bummer
