Tulane = Uniquely Urban
Tulane a place where urban accessibility is easy for students. However, it is surrounded by large, old and beautiful houses, Loyola University and Audubon Park. Many delicious restaurants are available by street car or a walk. The campus feels safe, but close to off campus there are many robberies. Shopping is not near-by but Tulane provides a shuttle service to make them accessible. Cultural events include Mardi Gras, Crawfest, Oktoberfest, Friday at the Quad (with free local food and a free local band every Friday afternoon), all free Tulane sporting events, a great rec center, and a student attitude of "work hard, party harder." Also, Tulane students have a great reputation for community service.

I'm a freshman and intend to live on-campus next year. I do know that many students are able to find houses for a relatively good price. Tulane does host an off-campus housing fair.

VERY Diverse
Tulane is a heavily Jewish school, is very gay-friendly and has a huge feminine vibe that still shows through Newcomb College (the former all-women's school that merged with Tulane). There is a Hillel for Jews that has excellent food and is accepting and excited to serve all students of all religions. Tulane also offers many Christian opportunities. There are countless opportunities for scholarships and activities to advantage women. Also, the percentage of blacks is seemingly high as well. However, most students come from a very wealthy background, and it is not difficult to observe that. I have not been able to discuss politics with people, but many of them seem fairly liberal.
