Shuttles
The transportation is pretty good. There's a shuttle that takes you to shopping malls off campus and to Wallmart. This operates on Wednesdays and Saturdays several times.

Cold!
Schenectady is really cold and windy- be prepared for that. It's not too bad, though. As long as you bring a winter jacket!

Pretty Good
Union is a good school. The people are nice and friendly; the professors are accessible; and the classes are challenging (in a good way). The social scene is awesome; campus is also beautiful. My complaints: I feel smarter than everyone around me all the time. Either that or I'm just more motivated. Union really is what you make it. All the classes I've taken have been fantastic. The profs are smart and you can learn SO much from them. I tend to find that quality classroom discussions are somewhat rare- mainly because the students around me don't seem motivated at all to contribute. My impression of the school is that many students were admitted for sports or because their parents had money. Many are fairly unintelligent. There's definitely a "city-feel" to the school. Everyone is Jewish, entitled, and rich. Despite that, there are some really awesome people around. I still wish that there were more motivated students, though.

Great profs and classes
I will absolutely vouch for quality of the professors. I've had nothing but good experiences with classes at Union. My professors have all been knowledgable, approachable, and kind, something I must give Union credit for.

Schenectady Sucks
There is SUCH a strain between the college and community. Nobody leaves campus, which makes me feel like I'm stuck in a bubble. I don't feel safe walking into town.

Campo is good, Health Center slow moving
Campus safety does a great job, as does the health center. Only complaint is that sometimes the health center requires you to go like 5 times before they do anything to help you other than giving you advil.

Frats are huge. Minervas nonexistent.
Socially I feel as though admissions really misleads prospective students. The minerva program was greatly emphasized during information sessions and tours. Fraternities were underplayed and I was led to believe that the minervas were the driving social force on campus. Since arriving, it's evident to me that this is not the case. Union is very much frat dominated. Although the minerva houses throw events, they are poorly attended and often feel somewhat forced. I think that the "fratty" college experience is right for some people, but it's not right for me. The combination of the frats with the isolation of the campus from the community of Schenectady makes me feel like I'm trapped in a drunken bubble.
