Lots of Options for a Small School

Vassar loves choices. We only have three graduation requirements- to show proficiency in a foreign language, take a Freshman Writing Seminar, and take a quantitative analysis class. Even within those requirements, there are a plethora of options. I fulfilled all my requirements my first semester, solely by taking classes that interested me. Since there are so few all-college requirements, majors can be more demanding than at other colleges. In the classroom, most the professor will know your name, sometimes by the second class. Most classes are discussion based, and even in larger classes (40 students) professors try to keep students involved in discussions.

Nightlife at Vassar College

Not a Lot of Options

We are a small school, and this represents itself in the party scene. If you want big frat parties, this is not the school for you. Most parties are either in the suites or senior housing, and are either dance parties or beer pong parties. If you don't drink, you will get bored. You aren't judged for not drinking, the parties usually aren't as fun. The best parties are private parties with only your friends or sports teams, but I would probably think that wherever I attended. All parties are either on campus, or a couple blocks away, we don't really venture too far into Poughkeepsie.
